Oh, thank god. I'm headed there now, I just.. One of our old acquaintences recognized me and.. well, I'll tell you more when I get there. I really just needed to know you were all right.
Look, I had to sort of step out for something work related but I'll be home in a bit, okay? Don't panic. It was just an asap thing so I'll be right back.
All right. I'm still in De Chima, heading for the Porter. I'll see you when you're home then. Please be safe, and don't agree to follow anyone anywhere.
[If he weren't in public, he'd tell Newton exactly what was wrong, but yelling about being accused of murder didn't seem to be a good idea so he just hung up instead. He didn't have time for Newton's attempts at levity.
When he got home, the tension and worry keeping him upright fled and he almost didn't make it further than the door. Cane falling to the wayside, Hermann collapsed into their couch and tried vainly to calm down]
[Newt longed to run home and comfort his husband, but a brief nosebleed was all he accomplished in resisting his Drift with Alice. Then, eyes a bit glazed from the Drift and the whiskey or two (or three) he had earlier, Newt stumbled out of the Maurtia Falls apartment and called a cab.
He arrived home straightening his collar and locked the door behind him. He had a bag with a bottle of wine.]
Let me pour you a drink to relax and then you can tell me.
[The worst of it was that his body couldn't decide whether or not he was going to cry. Everything felt awful and the longer Newton took, the worse all of it seemed.
When the door finally opened, he sprung to stand, but almost immediately dropped back down again.]
[He moved over to the kitchen and pulled down a cup for each. Tumblers only, they didn't have anything better. As he leaned in the doorway, pouring one glass and looking over Hermann with a calculated gaze, he said:]
[Oh that shapeshifter was still here, huh? Seems she enjoyed using her powers to manipulate people. Was she still Constellations lapdog or was she acting on her own?
Newt tried to look duly sympathetic as he placed the glass in Hermann's hand.]
I'm sure he was, Hermann, but you've got bigger things to worry about than if he was a good guy or not.
Did you murder him--no, of course you didn't. But then what's she blackmailing you to do for her?
Sometime toward the end of August, Newt will find an elegantly arranged gift basket hand-delivered to him by courier. Within is a tasteful array of artisan snacks and candies; a fine bottle of wine or liquor, or perhaps some gourmet coffee instead; a piece of handcrafted jewelry or small piece of art; and a black leather envelope clutch containing vouchers for various high end restaurants, theaters, entertainment venues, and spas around Maurtia Falls. In fact, everything down to the very basket itself seem to have been manufactured in Maurtia Falls.
A handwritten card accompanies the gifts. It reads:
"Maurtia Falls deserves to be celebrated for the incredible achievements it is already home to. If you believe that imPorts should play our part in elevating one of our Porter cities beyond its reputation, then Logan Delos is the ambassadorial candidate most deserving of your vote."
It's finished with Logan's scrawling signature, and contact information for his campaign, should anyone want to get in touch with him.

Yes, well you'll have to forgive me if I'm not in the frame of mind to appreciate it.

I'm being blackmailed.

For what?
action;
Interesting? I've been cornered and threatened by that shapeshifter twice now, and she wants to accuse me of murdering..!
[His voice wavered and he took a deep breath] Well, I didn't know him at all, but he was probably a nice, intelligent man.

[He took the glass, but it shook in his hand and he set it down instead]
She didn't say- for some future favor. That we shouldn't make enemies of her. I don't know what to do.

[He sipped his wine, thoughtful.]
... I could ask her what she wants?
